📡 Signal and Noise #
Sorting the real criticism from the outrage.
AlphaTheta’s CDJ-1500X and XDJ-AN drew near-unanimous criticism. But what is it that the community is really mad about? The two units landed a week apart to a wall of forum disapproval. However the most-repeated complaint, that fragile USB-C power could get yanked mid-set, is true of the XDJ-AN and simply not true of the CDJ-1500X. Same pattern with the claim that the XDJ-AN dropped its Sound Color FX: it still has the same six as the flagship above it. They just moved behind the touchscreen.
This is the story worth telling. Both units shift control off physical surfaces and behind glass, and both are pitched at homes, bars and lounges rather than the club-prep role the mid-tier has quietly played for a decade. Numark ships stems on a $99 controller - and the FCC leak we decoded goes official The Mixtrack GO ($99) and Party Mix III ($149) we tracked from their inMusic FCC filings are now real, and they shipped on 7 July. The headline is stems: both units carry dedicated real-time stem separation, including standalone Acapella and Instrumental buttons, on the cheapest gear in the catalogue. For those starting on stems - pulling a track into vocals, drums, bass and melody is one of the fastest ways for a beginner to hear how a record is built, and now they can do it on day one. 🌐 Software & Open Source #
Mixxx incorporates as a nonprofit to protect the project Mixxx has formed Mixxx e.V., a registered nonprofit association under German law set up to support and protect the project and its community. For a GPL-2.0-or-later project that’s not a cosmetic move: a legal entity can hold assets, take donations, defend the trademark and stand behind the licence in a way an informal group of volunteers cannot.
